CP2020 Homebrew & Houserules

Post by Knight »

First off, my combat overhaul! It's here:
Basically just fiddles around with some numbers to make things less guaranteed, but still have some wiggle room. Although more testing will need to be done to make sure that's true since I've seen plenty of players just barely miss... However, it's mostly short range that has this "basically sure-fired to hit". If you just needed a 10 to hit something, you would just need Reflexes at 5 and then roll a 5 or higher. 50% chance! Add on 2 in whatever gun skill and then you're 70% ready. Yet, the book figures a "inexperienced" enemy is one with a +10 to hit.

Still, it's like I said: make close range a wee bit harder, but experienced edgerunners can still do whacky shit.

I'll include some other things here like additional houserules and homebrews. Some new cybernetics and such probably.

Roles

Ripper
Sometimes the best medicine is stopping a person from getting injured in the first place. It also pays to be able to strip cybernetic enemies out on the battlefield.
Medtech (TECH)
Awareness | Basic Tech
Diagnose Illness | Education
Cybernetics | Rifle
Pharmaceuticals | Handgun
Human Perception

A more combat-orientated Medtech type.

Driver
"I don't sit in while you're running it down. I don't carry a gun. I drive."
Vehicle Zen
Awareness | Basic Tech
Drive | Motorcycle
Operate Heavy Machinery or Hide/Evade | Brawling or Athletics
Melee Weapons | Handgun
Streetwise

A real human bean that can carry a gun.

Street Knight
In a world where everyone carries a gun, you'd be mad to only go in with your fists or a melee weapon. Some choose to. Very few live to become legends.
Dsytopic Chivalry [REF]: When you aren't carrying a firearm on you, Dystopic Chivalry allows you to dodge ranged attacks. It also gives you a bonus to your Awareness skill and Initiative equal to Dystopic Chivalry. You also gain a bonus to melee damage and your BTM equal to half your Dystopic Chivalry level.
Awareness | Streetwise or Wardrobe & Style
Shadow/Track | Intimidate
Brawling or Martial Arts | Melee Weapons or Fencing
Dodge & Escape | Athletics
Strength Feat

For those who desire cutting folk up instead of blasting them.

Labcoat
Those meek-looking, labcoat-wearing scientists don't look like much, but they're the reason you've got your genetically-modified cats and robotic arms capable of bending steel beams.
Ingenuity [INT] or [TECH]: Choose a Specialty. This can rather basic things Chemicals, Robots, Cybernetics, ACPAs, Nuclear Physics, to more strange things like Super Soldiers, Monsters, Anomalies, and Aliens depending on your GM. Any INT or TECH skills that relate to your Specialty have half of your Ingenuity level added to it.

At +2, you're another budding scientists in a crowd of thousands of other labcoat-wearing geeks. At +4, people are starting to take you seriously. Your name is making it around the scientific community, and some Corpo might decide to scout you out. At +6, you're a respected member of the scientific community that would get advertised for coming to a scientific convention. At +8, you've proven yourself to be the leading scientists within your branch with ideas that could be referenced for many years to come like Albert Einstein or Freud.
Basic Tech | Library Search
Basic Education | Expert: (Any One)
Teaching | Mathematics
Any Three Scientific-Based Skills in INT or TECH.

Pushing Science
Idea | Difficulty | Time Consumed
Improving on a Well-Established Idea (A new electromagnetic sniper rifle) | 15+ | Few Months
Taking an Idea and Radically Altering it (Genetically splicing humans and cats to make catgirls) | 25+ | 1-3 Years
Totally Original Idea (Human-like androids, an engine fueled by a singularity, developing eldritch flesh abominations) | 20-30+ | 5-10 Years

Failing this roll can be seen as a number of ways. The most basic, and perhaps frustrating, is that it is simply not possible. However, one can also look at it as being a lack of funding stopping it short, a third party is interfering through scheming or launching an attack, or that a piece of technology or knowledge must be found before it can continue.
