Cyberpunk Destabilized States Lore

To be used for military-esque games.

Moldova
Following the short set of years where the Soviet Union was no more, European and other Western powers had influenced the small nation of Moldova with the promises of better living, higher wages, and increased civil liberties. However, the Democratic Convention group had showcased the nasty side of Capitalism. Corruption became rampant as politicians pocket foreign aid money in their own coffers, leaving their citizens to rely on one another to scrape by with a decent wage. Prostitution, forging, smuggling, and robbery increased following the creation of the Moldova Republic. President Petr Snegorvia, and his party, was blamed for all the issues that followed the Republic. It should, then, come as no surprise as the Neo-Soviet Union began their attempts to sway the public onto their side.

Following assassination of the President, Colonel Valeria Microsk declared a state of emergency. However, at the same time, a coup was attempted to oust the Colonel. Although the coup had failed, the blood spilled launched into a civil war. Western powers such as the UK, France, and the NUSA, supported the Loyalists, but have been pressuring Colonel Microsk to install a democratically-elected figurehead to replace the late President. The Neo-Soviet Union is believed the be the primary support of the separatists Revival Forces. The Revival Separatists have already begun in-fighting due to its members making up Moldovans, Romanians, Ukrainians, and Transnistrans. Each group of people seem to have their own belief on who Moldova belongs to, but agree to bringing it back into the Neo-Soviet Union.

Russia, and those belonging to the Neo-USSR that neighbor Moldova, have sent diplomatic and military support which include donation of equipment, volunteer forces, and military advice in support of the Revival Separatists. Although unconfirmed, it is believed that proper Neo-Soviet soldiers are within the nation. Western forces have only assisted through diplomatic support and that of military advice, but are believed to have aided in purchasing the assistance of PMCs.

80,000 active troops are estimated to be on the Loyalists side, but this number doesn't include PMCs. 120,000 troops are believed to be on the Separatists side.

For Corporations, it only serves as a ground to test new weapons, equipment, and other experiments in a live environment. Either side is approached by too good to be true offers for deals on such items, and sometimes both sides are approached by the same company.

Republic of Samaraq
A nation within the Middle East towards the south of Afghanistan. It's a country that has a long, bloody history even during the Dark Ages. With an abundance of oil and even metals, it has been the target of politicking from their neighbors to foreign powers. In 1965, the government had worked closely with the Soviet Union, offering small bribes in order to keep those high in the government appeased while making use of the country's resources. Naturally, this came with a growing resentment of the government. A rebel group, calling themselves Faris Al-Istiqlal, began to gain momentum. This rebellion group had the backing of the United States and Iran. Although it had mostly been a series of protests over the years, it slowly changed to small assaults on government buildings with supplied firearms from the foreign powers.

In July 15, 1967, a group of Faris Al-Istiqlal launched an attack on then Head of State Imran Hossain's personal vehicle. A parked VBIED flipped the Head of State's vehicle. Multiple police cars converged on the location where an hour long shootout occurred. A patrol of Soviet troops came across the scene and quickly engaged the terrorist group. Imran Hossain and two of his closet ally, along with 6 police officers, 3 civilians, and 8 Faris Al-Istiqlal were killed in the shootout. 1 Soviet soldier was wounded, 3 more cops were injured, and reportedly 8 of the terrorists were also injured. Still, the nation was used as a place to house troops before the invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. After the end of the war, while the Soviets were pulling out through the country, Faris Al-Istiqlal launched several ambushes on Soviet convoys. Although the success of them was minimum (out of 8 ambushes, only 2 APCs were destroyed, 8 Soviet Soldiers killed, and anywhere from a dozen to two dozen wounded) and costed them around 40 of their freedom fighters, those that died were martyred as "40 Fursan Alsama".

Following that, fighting against the government would break out stronger than ever. Towns were being annexed by freedom fighters, civilians were being recruited to assist as militia, more deviant methods of terror were being produced to encourage the citizens to fight with them and demoralize the government soldiers. It was not until 1991 where they had reached a point of taking over the government, but the members were beginning to question their methods. If they were supposed to be the Knights of Freedom, why do they resort to such tyrannical ways? The more radical, Iranian backed sect of the group splintered off and became Shuraka Aldima while the Faris Al-Istiqlal leftovers, backed by the United States, broke their ties with the United States to form their own path independently.

As the years have gone on, little much as truly changed. Whenever the FAI was growing close to assimilating with the government or abandoning their ways, something always sprung up or the Shuraka Aldima launched a brutal assault to remind them of their past. The New United States has put boots on the ground to protect their own interest while also attempting to bring some peace to the region.

The Faris Al-Istiqlal is estimated to have 40,000 soldiers at the ready, but can easily have double that due to recruiting local militia. Shuraka Aldima is estimated to have 18,000 fanatics at the ready, but that number seems to grow fast with every passing year. Guerilla tactics, IEDs, VBEIDs, suicide bombers, and overwhelming a position with pure numbers are favored maneuvers of either group. Shuraka Aldima employs more horrendous fear tactics compared to the Faris Al-Istiqlal. Trucks outfitted with machine guns and AA are also likely. Some armored vehicles have also been captured from neighboring countries.

Militia have old rifles, limited ammunition, and almost no access to body armor. The terrorist organizations' soldiers have a wider variety of arms with some even sporting rudimentary armor, but it's their fearless nature (helped by opioids most of the time) that make them stand out.

The New United States has placed 40,000 of their own troops, but have a technological advantage over the terrorist forces. Artillery, APCs, tanks, CAS, bomb-sniffing devices, and wider use of cybernetics are just some of these examples.

Acapulco, Mexico
A popular tourist city has turned into the cartel's private battlegrounds. For the last four years, Máscara Negra and Baja Grupo cartels have been fighting one another for control of the city. At first, it was decided to keep it as private as possible with the use of nightly raids and outskirt battles that would be quickly covered up before anyone noticed. Brutality after brutality would be forced upon either side until it would turn into an all-out public affair. The cartels quickly realized something: if you wouldn't stay out of their way or be for them, then you were against them. First, it was only police officers, but then it shifted to civilians, and then tourists. Kidnapping, extortion, torture, and murder fell upon the innocents and there was little they could say about it. Police are either too afraid or working for the cartels, so the Armed Forces is the only real choice.

However, the Cartels know how to make them second-guess responding to their incidents. Families and friends are threatened, kidnapped, and even killed to send a deadly point to those that call it home. Mexico's fierce want to be independent and solve their issues however they see fit saw most attempts to help them to be denied; they wouldn't become the puppets of any foreign power even if it cost the lives of their citizens.

However, that changed one of the Cartels were foolish, or ignorant, enough to kidnap Militech's Vice President Leon Stone's daughter. What they thought was some rich American's kid that they stole from her bodyguards proved to be way more than they bargained for-- they'd already have killed her and were just waiting for the money to hit their bank account. The Cartel thought they could just brush it off until the President agreed to have Militech and US troops on the ground to secure the city (at gun point, some think).

This declaration of forceful peace (and revenge for VP Stone's daughter) has shaken some of the cartel members, but also pushed others to assist in the war to prove that none of the Cartels should be messed with. If they win against Militech and the New United States Armed Forces, nothing can really stand in their way except for themselves.

Sporadic fighting may still occur between the Mascara Negra and Baja Grupo, but their forces should considered combined at a number of 38,000. Other cartels have already offered their help with 20,000 extra cartel members flooding the city. Smuggled weapons range from decade old guns to today's high-tech blades. "Special Forces" of the Cartel are employed that have decent gear and body armor. Cybernetics are sparse among cartel members. Trucks and cars with heavy armor plating make up most of their armored vehicles.

Militech has offered 10,000 of its employees to act as assault and security forces while the New United States is having 20,000 of its own troops support them. 15,000 Mexican soldiers will also assist. Advanced weaponry and tactics give a clear advantage to the Coalition force despite its smaller number.
